Victor Desmettre, film director and videographer
I'm an independent film director and videographer based in Lille. I also work in Paris and Brittany, and anywhere in France, Belgium or Switzerland when a film calls for it.

My background
I trained in filmmaking at the École nationale supérieure d'audiovisuel (ENSAV) in Toulouse, a French national film school. I set up VDVISUALS in January 2017. I film for companies, institutions and non-profits, and I make my own documentaries.
What I do
- Corporate and institutional films.
- Interviews and testimonials.
- Short videos for social media.
- Aerial filming by drone. I'm a certified drone pilot and I handle the flight authorisation requests myself.
- Documentaries, made over the long term.
- Wedding films, under another name: No Ordinary Love.
How I work
I write, film, record the sound and edit myself. You talk to the person who actually makes the film, from the first conversation to delivery. When a shoot calls for it, I bring in a second camera operator or a sound engineer I trust.
What matters most to me is that the people I film stay people. I don't like films that use people to carry a message. That's true for a documentary, and it's just as true for a corporate film.
I travel in a converted van. I can stay on location for several days, or several weeks, so distance isn't really a problem.
My documentaries
- Nos petites bulles ("Our Little Bubbles", 2025, 52 minutes). For three years, I followed my friend Aline and her husband David in their wish to have a child, after five pregnancy losses. Produced by Zorn Production International, in coproduction with France Télévisions, and broadcast on France 3 Hauts-de-France (northern France) on 13 March 2025.
- Entre les frontières ("Between the Borders"), a series in four episodes. The Utopia 56 volunteers between Calais and Grande-Synthe, from June 2022 to April 2023. Made without funding, and selected at the Jean Rouch International Film Festival.
- Où sont les moutons ? ("Where Are the Sheep?"), co-directed. Sheep farmers in the Deux-Sèvres, aged 85, and what they pass on to their grandson.
- Un simple espoir ("A Simple Hope"), in progress, between Calais and England.
Who I've worked with
Roquette, Lesaffre, Les 3 Brasseurs, the CCI Hauts-de-France (chamber of commerce and industry), the Chambre de métiers et de l'artisanat (chamber of trades and crafts), the Communauté de communes du Pays de Lumbres (a group of local councils), Utopia 56, L'Auberge des Migrants. In 2025, I wrote a series of awareness videos for Santé publique France (the French public health agency) on prevention and inclusivity around sexually transmitted infections and diseases. I co-directed them with the artist Soa de Muse, for queer and racialised communities. For five years, I also made the “Septembre en or” fundraising films for the Centre Oscar Lambret.
